At Prenton Primary School, we place great importance on the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our pupils as a key part of the ‘whole child’ education we aim to provide. This development enhances all areas of learning and plays a vital role in motivating our pupils. We believe that such growth is most effective when it is underpinned by the values and attitudes demonstrated by all staff, who act as role models for our pupils. These values are outlined below:
Spiritual: Encourage exploration of beliefs and experiences; foster respect for values; promote self-awareness and an understanding of the world; inspire imagination and creativity; provide opportunities for reflection.
Moral: Help pupils recognise right and wrong; support understanding of consequences; engage with moral and ethical issues; encourage reasoned discussion.
Social: Equip pupils with social skills for different situations; promote teamwork and collaboration; teach conflict resolution; help pupils understand how communities function.
Cultural: Encourage an appreciation of cultural influences; provide opportunities for cultural engagement; support an understanding of, acceptance of, respect for, and celebration of diversity.
We aim to provide an education that offers pupils opportunities to explore and develop their own values, beliefs, and spiritual awareness. Through regular visits to museums, theatres, art galleries, and places of worship, we bring our curriculum to life and foster an environment where pupils can engage with and appreciate the richness of the world around them. Our pupils demonstrate a positive, caring attitude towards others, develop an understanding of their social and cultural traditions, and gain an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures. We also emphasise the British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Pupils at Prenton Primary School understand the importance of rules and the role they play in ensuring the well-being of the whole school community. Our school and classroom rules reinforce positive behaviour, providing opportunities to celebrate pupils’ work and achievements. We reward children for doing the right thing, both intrinsically and extrinsically and celebrate positive behaviours through initiatives like the 20th kid.
We respect and explore the integrity and spirituality of pupils from all faith backgrounds. We recognise and celebrate the diversity of traditions, offering pupils access to alternative viewpoints. Every year, our pupils have the opportunity to visit a different place of worship, enhancing their understanding and acceptance of various faiths and religions. Additionally, we invite visitors from different faiths and cultures, as well as local clergy, to help demonstrate respect and foster understanding within our school community as well as a range of workshops delivered by the Wirral MEAS team.
Our school is a place where pupils can feel accepted as unique individuals, and where resilience is encouraged, along with the opportunity to start afresh. Pupils learn to understand the impact of their actions on others and are encouraged to value themselves and those around them. Our positive behaviour policy ensures that this ethos is applied consistently, creating an environment where pupils can grow, learn, and thrive together.
